Pinoy Rock

Today I went to DZRJ FM for an interview. Until after the interview I had a very little idea how historically important RJ100 FM was to the Philippines and the Pinoy Rock scene.

First I read about RJ100’s owner Ramon Jacinto. He’s a businessman and musician and an icon in Pinoy Rock. Born in 1945 his musical influences are from the 50’s and 60’s hence the current format of RJ100.3 FM. Anywho, what interested me more was the Pinoy Rock scene. I know I knew little and today seemed appropriate to dig deeper.

Pinoy Rock = Juan dele Cruz Band = Himig Natin = Pepe Smith. That’s the best equation to put it into. It’s amazing to see how closely rooted to world events in the 60’s and 70’s rock muisic in the Philippines was. It was amazing to get a glimpse of life back in those days in colored video and rich rock and roll audio.
